Blueridge Parkway Begins 75th Anniversary Celebration this weekend


Nov 12-14 - beginning in Cherokee NC. Opening Weekend for the 2010 Celebration of The Blueridge Parkway's 75th Anniversary. The weekend begins with a reception and presentation at 5:00 PM. There is no charge to participate. All events will take place at the new “green” school campus, 1582 Ravensford Circle, Cherokee, North Carolina.


Nov 13, 10AM: - A ceremonial torch passing from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2009, to the Blue Ridge Parkway at the Ravensford Overlook at Milepost 467 at the southern end of the Parkway. The event will also highlight the passage of intergenerational stewardship as well as a performance of the Warriors of AniKituhwa dancers and remarks from both park superintendents and a representative of the Eastern Band of the Cherokees Indians Tribal Council.


Nov 13, 12PM: - A three-hour tour of the Blue Ridge Parkway complete with experienced guides and a boxed lunch! Reservations are required and can be made by calling Museum of the Cherokee Indian at 828.497.3481. Cost is $20 per person to be paid at time of departure.


Nov 14, 5:30PM-7PM: - Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, 87 Haywood Street, Asheville NC. Benefit Concert. The concert features award-winning singer/songwriter Nanci Griffith as well as a one-time-only collaboration of The Blue Ridge Bluegrass All-Stars showing their support for the Parkway.

Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad Summer Sports Festival in Lake Lure, NC

As a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers, the annual Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad regional sports festival brings people together in the spirit of friendly competition for the broader purpose of promoting health and wellness, charitable giving, regional tourism and economic development. Since 2005, the Olympiad has given back over $120,000 to charities.

  • Named a "Top 20 Event" two years in a row by the Southeast Tourism Society (2008 & 2009)
  • Held in beautiful Lake Lure, NC - named one of the "ten most beautiful man-made lakes" by National Geographic and also named one of the best lakes for water-skiing by Waterski Magazine
  • More than 20 competitive events

The world famous "LURE OF THE DRAGONS" will be in beautiful downtown Lake Lure this Saturday May 16th!


BRING EVERYONE TO THIS UNIQUE MOUNTAIN EVENT!

It’s a fundraiser for kids! All the fun and excitement is for a good cause. Through our sponsors and team pledges, the event is a major fundraiser for non-profit programs and services for area youth.

IT'S A FESTIVAL TOO.

Help celebrate our Asian-American and Southern cultures with music, dance, food, exhibits, crafts, and a kids’ inflatable play area. It’s a real unique family outing.
